Last night, Oliver and I made the trek out to Glendale to see Ghostland Observatory. I saw this incredible twosome more than a year ago at Gothamist's Movable Hype 3.0 with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. It was a great show largely due to Ghostland's incredible set that blew me and the rest of the audience away. For whatever reason, CYHSY is indie level huge and Ghostland is still playing small clubs. I am not complaining, but would love to see these guys blow up.
We unfortunately got there super late and only saw them play 5 songs but the energy that this band has is unparalleled. There is really no band that you can compare them to. One song, lead singer Aaron Behrens is dancing around and the next song, he is crooning to you like some disco-fied Frank Sinatra.
They closed with my two favorite songs off their first album, Silver City and Rich Man. Silver City is just an incredible song that does not fit into their repertoire, but when they play it, you realize only Ghostland Observatory can pull it off.
If you haven't heard these guys yet, enjoy:
MP3: Piano Man - Ghostland Observatory
MP3: Silver City - Ghostland Observatory
Also, I really enjoyed Scene Bar in Glendale. It's nice to come upon a new music venue. It's small, but it still has a real good sound. I look forward to more shows there.

Thanks so much for sharing those two mp3s! I just discovered Ghostland Observatory at the Austin City Limits festival and cannot wait to put my hands on their CDs. This will keep me patient until then :-)

I've been here before... no joke. It's gorgeous. I think I stopped to take a pee in the woods.1
