Death Cab for Cutie and Stars: November and December Dates

Death Cab for Cutie and Floating Away favorites Stars will be spending some time in LA during November and December. 

Stars will be supporting Death Cab for two nights at the Wiltern (November 11th and November 12th) and also playing a special acoustic set at Amoeba Records on Friday November 11th at 6 pm.

Death Cab will return on New Years Eve to play the Hope Stage at the Giant Village New Years Eve Show. Also scheduled to appear: The Black Eyed Peas, John Digweed, The Crystal Method and more. 

The Wiltern Shows are sold out, the Amoeba Records show is free and the New Years Eve show is $70.

It's Hard to be a Saint in the City

On Friday, Oct 28th, the Washington Post reported that the NFL would consider relocating the New Orleans Saints to Los Angeles if New Orleans is unable to recover from Katrina.  The Saints, who have been playing home games in San Antonio, have stated that the SuperDome won't be available until 2006 at its earliest.

Today, the LA Times reported that it isnt that simple.  Paul Tagliabue, commish of the NFL, said, "We're going to make every effort to keep the Saints as Louisiana's team."  For their home state opener at LSU yesterday only 66,000 fans showed up. 20,000 more showed up to watch LSU destroy North Texas.  No word on how many apathetic LA football fans would show up if they played in the coliseum. 

Rogue Wave Tour Ends at the Troubadour

Zach Rogue and his wonderful band, Rogue Wave, just released their second album, Descended Like Vultures on Sub Pop.  The Oakland band will be touring all over this great land hitting up such places at the VFW Hall in Fargo, ND and Howie and Sons Pizza in Visalia, CA and ending their tour at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.

Konerko heading to Disneyland, for real?

No one had a chance.  Not the Indians, the Angels, nor the Astros.  After sweeping Houston to win its first Pennant since 1917, the Sox might have to part ways with slugger Paul Konerko due to free agency.  Konerko lives in Arizona and has publicly said that he would like to play for the Angels.

Sandy Cohen signs to Sony

Peter Gallagher, star of the OC, is taking his one night stand at the bait shop pretty seriously.  After singing Solomon Burke's "Don't Give Up on Me" on an episode of the OC, Sony has signed the singer/actor to an album contract.  He recorded the album in Memphis using old Stax session players.  Gallagher came up with a whole album of songs, mainly covers, in the same vain as "Don't Give Up on Me."  According to Yahoo! Music News, Gallagher covers Carla and Rufus' "When You Move You Lose" and Sam and Dave's "Something Is Wrong with My Baby."

Cheeseburger, anyone?

Sure, I was planning on making a salad for dinner.  But then I remembered that cheeseburgers are much better.  I had driven past Hamburger Habit (Sepulveda and National) a couple of times in the past, so I decided to give it a try.  The inside was faintly reminesent of Gray's Papaya in NYC.  I recommend it highly.  Great burger and salty fries.

RIP to (the voice of) the Jolly Green Giant

Len Dresslar, voice of the Jolly Green Giant, died. The Palm Springs resident was primarily known for being the voice of the Jolly Green Giant, but also 

"landed roles for Rice Krispies cereal, Marlboro cigarettes, Amoco oil and Dinty Moore canned beef stew.  He periodically re-recorded the "Ho, Ho, Ho" for Jolly Green Giant commercials, most recently about 10 years ago."
