After work last night, I stopped by Hotel Cafe to see the much buzzed about Elvis Perkins. Jerry Yeti posted some tracks by these guys about 6 months ago and it's a name that you just don't forget. Turns out, Elvis is the son of screen legend Anthony Perkins and he grew up here in LA, so last night's show was full of friends and long lost fans.
I personally think he is way too talented to be playing the opening slot at Hotel Cafe, but I also wouldn't have gone if he was playing at 11. I am sure the "Next Bob Dylan" comparisons are out there on Elvis Perkins, I honestly haven't done the research that I really need to do on him, but it's really unfair to put that label on him (or anyone for that matter). Elvis is one talented dude backed by a band that equally as talented as he is. His voice is remarkable (think Colin Meloy meets Alec Ounsworth) and his lyrics are even better. If you don't belive me, listen below:
MP3: Ash Wednesday - Elvis Perkins
MP3: May Day - Elvis Perkins
And according to Elvis Perkins' website, he is also playing with the Cold War Kids and Dr. Dog at the Troubadour on Sept. 8.
Also, for those of you who care, I found my camera charger, so I can start putting pictures I took up again.

i like it ,thanks
I think people must first research before
we were most definitely peaceful, happy, loving ... content.
