This mix is coming a bit late and I truly apologize for that.  I have been a bad blogger recently and have a list of things that I have been meaning to write, but just haven't gotten around to it. 

June's mix is sprinkled with some old classics and some new gems.  After hearing a great piece on Arthur Alexander on Fresh Air, I had to include Anna.  I finally got into Emitt Rhodes and have been thoroughly enjoying all of his albums, so expect some more Emitt Rhodes in the future.  The National show at the El Rey was incredible, so had to throw something on there from Boxer.  Still loving Wilco, especially those VW ads.  Myriad Harbor is pretty much one of my favorite things so far this year and Bobby Bare Jr's cover of Where is My Mind is also pretty beautiful.  Toss in some more local stuff (The Little Ones, Tandemoro, The Switch, Dntel) and you have this month's mix. I hope you enjoy it.

June is upon us which means its time for another mix.  This was genuinely hard to put together largely because I felt there was an influx of music coming at me this month.  I am still loving the new Bjork after her Coachella performance.  I keep playing the soundtrack to Once, weeks after I saw the movie.  The new Spoon, Besnard Lakes, Feist, Wilco, Ted Leo and Electrelane keep impressing me.  The Van Morrison song, Stepping Out Queen II, came on shuffle one day and I immediately remembered how great the Philosopher's Stone is.

So, this one's coming a bit late, but alas it's here. The artwork this month is from LCD Soundsystem's set at Coachella. 

This month's mix has a bit of everything.  Here's a brief rundown:

I saw Killer of Sheep at the Nuart a few weeks back and the movie used "This Bitter Earth" so beautifully, I had no choice but to throw it in.  Daniel Johnston was on my mind a lot as I finally watched "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" and Friday Night Lights used the Bright Eyes cover of "Devil Town" which is great, even for a Conor Oberst song.  I really love the new National, the new Feist, and the Sea Wolf EP.  The new Maria Taylor is good if you like that Aimee Mann / female singer-songwriter thing.  Upon watching Regina Spektor's set at Coachella, I forgot how much I loved "That Time", so had to throw that on there.  The rest is a sampling of things seen and songs that came up on shuffle.  Of course, I had to end with LCD Soundsystem.  I fear I am becoming obsessed.

January 07 Mix

I have been a terrible blogger in 2007.  I have seen lots of shows, bought tickets to more, and have not written about any of it.  Next thing I know, this place is all about lobsters and cell phones. 

Just like lots of people, I listen to a lot of music.  The problem is, I do a bad job of keeping track of what I listen to.  Lots of times people ask me about new music and I don't really know what to tell them.  Sometimes, I only listen to old stuff and nothing new.  Other moments I only listen to new stuff.  It all really depends. 

So, a new feature on Floating Away - mix of the month.  A mix cd full of the tracks that have been keeping me busy in January.  Some new, some old, all great.  Lots of Destroyer and Amy Winehouse this month.  The new Arcade Fire, Menomena and Parson Red Heads has been getting lots of spins.  I still can't stop listening to Elvis and Ferraby.  My trip to New Orleans at the end of 06 got me listening to a whole lot of other stuff (Dr. John, Little Junior Parker, Fats Domino).
